Carlina acaulis subsp. simplex

Common Name: 'Alpine thistle'

This is an extraordinary plant with an interesting, sculptural quality. Low rosettes of green, prickly thistle leaves, with huge heads of silvery-white flowers with a rusty-brown centre, nestle just above the leaves that last for many weeks. Jun-Aug. H20cm S25cm.

Care Instructions

Grow in full sun in poor, free-draining soil. Excellent in a rock or gravel garden. The flowers can be effectively dried.
