A semi-evergreen clump-forming perennial with divided glossy, green leaves. The flowers come in a huge range shades of white, green, purple and pink, spotted and unspotted, and also black. We grow colour strains from known parent plants but you are more likely to get what you want if you buy it in flower. Feb-Apr. H45cm S45cm.
Thrives in neutral to alkaline soils that are moist, fertile and humus-rich. Partial shade is ideal but can tolerate full sun. Provide shelter from strong, cold winds. Mulch annually in autumn. Relatively easy to grow but may be slow to establish. Cut off the old leaves in January before the flowers emerge. This shows off the flowers to best effect and fresh, new leaves quickly emerge as the flowers fade.
Macplants are central/southern Scotland's largest growers of herbaceous perennials, alpines, ferns and ornamental grasses. We have our plant centre open to the public in East Lothian, close to Edinburgh and we also supply a diverse range of trade clients both in the landscape and garden centre sectors.
We grow a large range of plants including many interesting and unusual varieties not usually seen for sale. Amongst the many plants we grow are our highly praised autumn Gentians bred here by Dr Ian McNaughton and probably the largest range of Meconopsis cultivars found anywhere.
